Three Chronotope perfumes perfect for people who love green scents—think freshly cut grass, vegetables, hay, cool and crisp incense, springtime air, angrestic herbs, and earthy roots. Each sample arrives in a 2mL spray vial.

Spite EdP: Rose gardens may be beautiful, but if you’re not careful in them, you’ll cut yourself on all the thorns. Spite EdP casts these prickly points into a perfume that features one of the most weaponized blooms on the planet: a rare and stunning absolute distilled from real globe artichokes, flinty and metallic, which takes the lead in this not-so-nice perfume that doubles as an in-depth study of all the olfactive aspects the idea of “green” can signify. With lashings of cool, crisp galbanum, bitter spikenard, chill geranium, homey thyme and rosemary, and warm, lusty orange blossom, Spite EdP is often described by its fans as a suit of olfactive armor.

Cucurrucucú EdP: Designed as a gift for my best friend’s wedding party for his ceremony that occurred on April Fool’s Day a few years ago, and based on the smoky mezcal negroni that attendees held up as they cheered the newlyweds at their wedding reception, Cucurrucucu features one of the most stunning resins you’ve likely never smelled in perfume: real, sustainably harvested, indigenous-distilled copal negro essential oil made with resin picked from the fallen branches of trees on protected, unseeded indigenous lands. European perfumers have claimed for centuries that copal, a direct botanical relative to frankincense, is not a suitable material for perfume. But Cucurrucucú reveals who the real fools are as it celebrates a union built to last—one founded upon respect and care rather than exploitation and control.

Janus EdP: A vetiver lover’s delight, Janus deploys a traditional hydrodistillation of the grassroot called ruh khus that has been manufactured for centuries in the northern region of India where copper pots—as opposed to stainless steel—are used to extract the oil. The result of that process is a gorgeous, emerald-green colored oil that showcases the true kaleidoscopic range of vetiver, equally earthy and aquatic, grassy and woody, ozonic and rooted, and all at once. Janus EdP, then, is named after the ancient multi-headed god whose many sets of eyes gave him 360* vision. And given that in India, ruh khus is used in summer as a way to cool off from the summer heat, Chronotope recommends that Janus EdP be stored in the fridge and enjoyed cold.
