SILUETA EAU DE PARFUM:

A perfume because of Ana Mendieta

Chronotope perfume’s Silueta EdP lies in a shimmering nest of fabric in the same blood red color as the thumbprint on the perfume bottle’s label.

“Smells […] like the fraught present. The proof of the living.”
—Tracy Wan, @theinvisiblestories, via Instagram Stories

Life cycles viewed through hollow historical records written by forced hands: soft blooms and blonde woods, so much sand, the cacoa, the cacaloxóchitl y el omolixochitl—no—la tierra madre, la sangre en polvo, el espíritu santo, la magdalena, el exilio, las piedras a cenizas. Y/our absence, y/our loss.

Scent Notes

Faint Rose, Southern Magnolia, Tuberose, Hollow Hulls of Wooden Ships, Blood, Red Frangipani Absolute, Gardenia, Chocolate, Jade Cypress Wood, Soil Notes

Mood

Reverent & Awful—in the classic sense of the word “awful,” as in “awe-full,” as in “full of awe”

Wear Style

Unisex. Quiet, layered, and introspective. Best worn when you’re willing to listen closely. But my best friend (a cis man) also wears it to the office, so YMMV.

Projection

Soft, private, intimate, grounded, and somehow inexplicably aloof. Known for totally vanishing into thin air for hours only to return seemingly out of nowhere. An excellent perfume for when you want to wear perfume, but you don’t want to be reminded that you’re wearing perfume.

“Look, I'm at a loss here. I sprayed this on my wrist this morning and felt a rush of scrambled emotions and nostalgia. It smells like an old-school perfume, something classic, but also like food, like herbs. It reminds me of a makeup bag, which leads me to believe there is rose, iris, and/or violet in here. It is beautiful […]”

”Salty, mineralic citrus and green galbanum bridged by watery florals and grassy vetiver to moss and gentle wood-smoke. A memory of the body as water, earth and atmosphere.”
—Dave Kern, American Perfumer

“The pre-colonial name for tuberose in the place where it was first found and stolen by settlers is omixochitl, and the idea of bloody earth and a flower that became a centrepiece of French perfumery of course doesn’t make for light or casual wear, but that narrative is only there if you choose to attend to it. In any case, Silueta is either about art and violence, or it’s about tuberose, and it’s very possible to love it if you only care for one of those things. It’s not an elegant or dainty tuberose that has been practically done to death in perfumery, and instead one for the gardeners out there.”
